Hi-Tech Solutions On Display at Manufacturing & Distribution Technology Expo

showcased a wide range of automation hardware &
software.
Manufacturers were able to assess the capabilities of current state of
the art devices including rugged hand held wireless devices using various
operating systems such as Palm, Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 for extreme
industrial environments. A wide array of printing solutions from Zebra and
hand held barcode scanners. Portable computers from HHP, Symbol and
Intermec were available for hands-on trial. Machine vision experts,
RVSI, showed the latest intelligent devices for reading 2D data matrix
and measurements directly off parts to aid in tracking, alignment and
automated assembly procedures. Learning how the tools will work
with existing specific manufacturing processes is critical when
deciding how to upgrade plant technology.
Synrad - Seattle, Wash, demonstrated the unique capabilities of its
high performance world class lasers in parts marking on metal and other
materials. The ability of the laser to cut metal with high precision
also makes them an attractive device for fabrication shops.
Wireless communications for the shop floor were demonstrated by Wavelink.
The wavelink systems provide secure access and administration. Wavelink also provides development tools for the wireless application. Spectralink's
latest hand-held commercial cordless handsets were also on display.
Spectralink's phones provide real-time factory floor communications.
Several software packages were also available to help the manufacturer
improve quality control, real-time monitoring of processes and efficiency on
the factory floor. Mid-market ERP software provider Syspro demonstrated the
importance of a solid planning and tracking tool to manage day-to-day
transactions and improve profitability.
Radio Beacon's high end warehousing and distribution software was an
important tool for the modern high capacity distribution facility. PSC also
provided information on Intellitrack's integrated hardware and software
solutions for the warehouse environment.
